Baseball Game Preview: Northview Chiefs vs. Laurel Hill Hoboes

Northview is a perfect 6-0 against Laurel Hill since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Chiefs will square off against the Hoboes at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Northview had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt W.S. Neal on Friday. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-5 win. The Chiefs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Northview let Braynt Mason and Luke Chavers run wild. Mason went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Chavers scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Mason a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Laurel Hill fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against L.E.A.D. Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 17-16. On the bright side, the 16- run performance marked the Hoboes' highest-scoring contest to date.

Nathan Gemina made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Graves, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

This is the second loss in a row for Laurel Hill and nudges their season record down to 2-13. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Northview, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.

Everything went Northview's way against Laurel Hill in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Northview made off with a 17-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
