Volleyball Recap: Spring Mills Falls Short Against Ranked Musselman

Spring Mills faced Musselman in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cardinals fell 3-1 to the Applemen. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Applemen earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Spring Mills was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Musselman work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 18-25, 25-13, 25-23.

McKenna Mullin paced Spring Mills' offense, picking up 21 kills. Mullin got some help from Gabrielle Malatt and her 20 assists. Oliviah Spurgeon and Sasha Conner kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with three aces apiece.

Alycia Miller had an outrageously good game for Musselman as she had 32 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Miller has posted over her last three contests.

This is the second loss in a row for Spring Mills and nudges their season record down to 15-10-1. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 30-3-3 Hedgesville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 74.6% over those games). As for Musselman, their victory ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 21-13.

Spring Mills has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Clear Spring on the 15th. As for Musselman, they will venture away from home to face off against Hedgesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
