Baseball Recap: Union Catholic Gets the Win

Union Catholic came out on top against Westfield on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Vikings walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Blue Devils. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Cody Alicea looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Greg Viloria, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brian McCabe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Union Catholic's record now sits at 12-8-1. As for Westfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Union Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against Westfield: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
