Softball Recap: Leland Comes Up Short

If Leland was feeling good fresh off their 11-3 takedown of Saratoga last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Leland Chargers fell just short of the Santa Teresa Saints by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Sabrina Chung spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Irene Kim made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Lily Fergason was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Leland now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Santa Teresa, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leland will face off against Ann Sobrato at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Santa Teresa, they will head out on the road to take on Leigh at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leigh has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.17 runs per game on average), something Santa Teresa will no doubt try to take advantage of.
