The Lovington Wildcats will challenge the Roswell Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Lovington has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Lovington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Dexter, who was ranked fifth at the time (Lovington was ranked 13th). The Wildcats fell just short of the Demons by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Sabrie Sanchez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Lovington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anahie Quiroga, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Roswell, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against Goddard by a score of 7-3 two weeks ago.
Yadira Aragon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Bella Ornelas was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alayna Tarin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Roswell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lovington's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Roswell, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Lovington was able to grind out a solid victory over Roswell in their previous meeting back in March, winning 11-6. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Coyotes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
