Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Brophy College Prep, Notre Dame Prep was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Chaparral Firebirds. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Firebirds: they've now won seven in a row.

Layne Henry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Henry was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Andrew Baker looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Notre Dame Prep got a big performance out of Aidan Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Owen Boeding was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

Notre Dame Prep's record is now 20-8. As for Chaparral, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-14 record.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Horizon at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Chaparral does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
