Softball Game Preview: Marshfield Rams vs. Whitman-Hanson Regional Panthers

Marshfield is a perfect 7-0 against Whitman-Hanson Regional since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marshfield has seven straight wins, Whitman-Hanson Regional has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Marshfield narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Duxbury 3-2. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by just one run.

Caroline Arruda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sarah McIntyre, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Whitman-Hanson Regional didn't have quite enough to beat Plymouth North on Tuesday and fell 6-5.

Marshfield's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Whitman-Hanson Regional, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything went Marshfield's way against Whitman-Hanson Regional in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Marshfield made off with an 11-3 win. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
