Softball Game Preview: Grosse Pointe North Norsemen vs. Chippewa Valley Big Reds

The Grosse Pointe North Norsemen will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Chippewa Valley Big Reds at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Grosse Pointe North has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Grosse Pointe North lost 18-8 to Dakota on Thursday. The Norsemen have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chippewa Valley). They blew past L'Anse Creuse North 14-8 on Wednesday. With that win, the Big Reds brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Sammie Nowicki was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Frankie Goodrich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Chippewa Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Chippewa Valley and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Grosse Pointe North, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Grosse Pointe North couldn't quite finish off Chippewa Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
