Baseball Recap: Holmes County Triumphs

Holmes County's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Choctawhatchee Indians get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.

Bryant Mathis made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Holmes County is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Mathis was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on DJ Baggett, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Peyton Simmons also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Holmes County's record now sits at 3-4. As for Choctawhatchee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Holmes County will take on Port St. Joe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tiger Sharks have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Choctawhatchee, they will face off against Baker at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season.
