Recap: Baldwyn Bearcats vs. Wheeler Eagles
The Baldwyn Bearcats were the 44-41 winner over the Wheeler Eagles when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Baldwyn took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wheeler on Thursday.
Despite the loss, Baldwyn still got an impressive performance from Perrie Barnett, who scored 12 points. Barnett scored a full 35.3% of Baldwyn's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lamiyia Bonds was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Wheeler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rebekah Mason led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Mason has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Partlow, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
Baldwyn's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Wheeler, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Baldwyn is on the road again on Tuesday and play against South Pontotoc at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th. South Pontotoc presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Baldwyn in Mississippi (South Pontotoc is ranked 47th, while Baldwyn is ranked 172nd). As for Wheeler, they will be playing at home against Kossuth at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kossuth will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
