Baseball Game Preview: Douglas County Huskies vs. Rock Canyon Jaguars

The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to take on the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rock Canyon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Douglas County, who comes in off a win.

Rock Canyon will be up against a hot Douglas County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Huskies came out on top against Heritage by a score of 9-6 on Monday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

The team relied heavily on Spensor Sharp, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Douglas County's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Max VanDewalker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Rock Canyon's offense. They came up short against Regis Jesuit on Monday, falling 10-0. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Douglas County pushed their record up to 9-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Rock Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Douglas County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rock Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Douglas County couldn't quite get it done against Rock Canyon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
