League recap: Canton Academy wins, gets boost in standings

MAIS AA District 2 recap September 4, 2013

Canton Academy was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in MAIS AA District 2. The Panthers defeated Central Holmes Christian 43-0 earlier in the week.

Canton Academy took down the Trojans 43-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lafayette Wales ran for 156 yards during the win.

Bradley Stapleton was the best wideout in the league this week as Winston Academy fell to Lamar.

Riley Pierce put up the best numbers in passing as Oak Hill Academy lost to Marshall Academy. He had a total of 4 completions for 96 yards. Pierce's favorite target this week was Bradley Allen, who caught 2 passes for 45 yards.

Wales was a passing and rushing force as Ron Jurney's team bested Central Holmes Christian.

Wales was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate John Bryant Stewart added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.

Leading MAIS AA District 2 in both passing and receiving yards, the Raiders' Pierce and Allen have proven to be a lethal combination. Pierce has thrown for 144 yards this season, while Allen, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 4 catches for 67 yards. Wales from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 297 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oak Hill Academy takes on Tri-County Academy. Daniel Merchant's team is currently in third, while the Rebels are in first.

Canton Academy made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,334 from 6,913. The improvement came about via a 43-0 victory over the Trojans last week.
