Recap: Morton Panthers vs. Columbia Wildcats
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Morton Panthers can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 43-28 to Columbia. While losing is never fun, Morton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Columbia is ranked 22nd).
When it comes to explaining why Morton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zach Ealy. Despite the final result, he threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Caleb Johnson was another key contributor, picking up 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Morton has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Columbia, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Morton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Columbia will take on Greene County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
