The Trinity Christian Gryphons are taking a road trip to face off against the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity Christian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Friday, Trinity Christian needed a bit of extra time to put away Saint John Paul the Great Catholic. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Wolves. The game was the first time the Gryphons have beaten the Wolves on their field since March 10, 2020.
The team relied heavily on Grady Frank, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Philip Long was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Fredericksburg Christian took on Highland last Thursday. The Eagles came up short against the Hawks, falling 17-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Fredericksburg Christian also got a good showing from John Guthinger, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Guthinger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brodie Fletcher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
Trinity Christian's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they dropped their record down to 5-12-1 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Fredericksburg Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Trinity Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. It's a different story for Fredericksburg Christian, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Trinity Christian's hitters?
