Recap: El Capitan/Centennial Academy vs. Williams Vikings

Even though El Capitan/Centennial Academy have not done well against the Williams Vikings recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. El Capitan/Centennial Academy enjoyed a cozy 51-36 win over Williams. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 21 to ten on the offensive boards, as El Capitan/Centennial Academy did.

El Capitan/Centennial Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Violet Barlow out in front who scored nine points along with six steals and five assists. Barlow is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Leta Hammon, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

When it comes to explaining why Williams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kai Mortensen. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 52.8% of Williams' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

El Capitan/Centennial Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Williams, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

El Capitan/Centennial Academy will be playing at home against Ash Fork at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ash Fork is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Williams, they will head out on the road to square off against Grand Canyon at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Grand Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Saturday.
