Monroe Central falls to Weir in first game of season

Monroe Central couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weir Red Riders on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Monroe Central of the 6-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
Landen Lydick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Knowlton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will take on Shadyside at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Weir, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Catholic Central at 5:00 p.m.
