Basketball Game Preview: Highland Springs Springers vs. Hampton Crabbers

Highland Springs is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Hampton is on a 12-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Highland Springs Springers will host the Hampton Crabbers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Highland Springs is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Armstrong: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Highland Springs blew Armstrong out of the water with an 88-20 final score. With the Springers ahead 61-15 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Highland Springs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Shelton, who posted 20 points. Shelton's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Samaya Brown was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hampton). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Denbigh 95-9. Given the Crabbers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Patriots are ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hampton's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Highland Springs, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Highland Springs didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Hampton in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, but they still walked away with a 55-49 win.
