Basketball Recap: Petey Pizzo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fallbrook over Escondido

After flying high against Clairemont last Saturday, Fallbrook came back down to earth. The Fallbrook Warriors fell to the Escondido Cougars 68-64. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Petey Pizzo, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Pizzo has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Teague Lucy, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 18 points and four steals.

Fallbrook's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Escondido, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fallbrook will challenge San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fallbrook is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.3 points per game this season. As for Escondido, they are taking a road trip to challenge Rancho Bernardo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Escondido's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
