Baseball Recap: Denison Takes a Loss

Denison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Walnut Grove Wildcats, falling 19-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 last Wednesday.

Max Aleman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Tristian Carvell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Denison's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Walnut Grove, they pushed their record up to 2-8-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Denison and Walnut Grove could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Denison will challenge Gunter at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday down 871 places (932 vs. 61). Denison has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Meanwhile, Walnut Grove (ranked 667th) will meet Frisco (ranked 198th) at 12:00 p.m. on March 22nd.
