Baseball Recap: Cotopaxi Takes a Loss

Cotopaxi extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They came up short against the Elbert Bulldogs, falling 19-4. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Cotopaxi saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Dunn, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Elbert, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

On Elbert's side, Sam Cornell was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Cornell a new career-high. Grant Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cotopaxi will take on rival Kiowa at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Elbert is set to challenge their familiar foe Custer County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
