Andrews and Estacado are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Matadors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Andrews was handed a 50-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Monahans, sneaking past 25-22. The win almost wasn't to be: the Mustangs were down 22-8 in the third quarter.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Beau Hudson and JaeSean DeBouse. Hudson rushed for 157 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries while DeBouse gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns. Hudson got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 87 yards.
Andrews didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Adrian Miller and Brody Figueroa. Another thorn in Monahans' side was Sammy Saldivar, who made 14 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Estacado was able to grind out a solid victory over Randall on Thursday, taking the game 14-7. The 14-point effort marked the Matadors' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Estacado now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Andrews, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3.
Andrews suffered a grim 42-22 defeat to Estacado in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
