Baseball Game Preview: R.J. Reynolds Demons vs. Mount Tabor Spartans

The R.J. Reynolds Demons will head out to take on the Mount Tabor Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. R.J. Reynolds is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

R.J. Reynolds took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Parkland by a score of 16-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Demons considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Jackson Gallimore was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for R.J. Reynolds: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Henry Smart also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

R.J. Reynolds always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mount Tabor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against East Forsyth, falling 15-5.

David Thiel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Koonin, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Mount Tabor's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for R.J. Reynolds, their record now sits at 7-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. R.J. Reynolds has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Tabor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

R.J. Reynolds might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Mount Tabor in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Demons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
