Football Game Preview: Grosse Ile Red Devils vs. Riverview Pirates

Grosse Ile hasn't had much luck against Riverview recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Grosse Ile has given up an average of 33.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Grosse Ile had to suffer through a 53-14 loss at the hands of Jefferson. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Bears are ranked 99th).

Despite the loss, Grosse Ile saw an underclassman step up: freshman Luke Epperson rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.

Meanwhile, Riverview had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 14-13 W against the Falcons/Kestrels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since November 1, 2024.

Riverview's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Grosse Ile, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Grosse Ile was dealt a bruising 49-6 loss at the hands of Riverview in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Red Devils were down 36-0.
