West Potomac is 8-2 against Alexandria City since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. West Potomac is taking a road trip to face off against Alexandria City at 6:30 p.m. West Potomac will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
West Potomac is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Woodson by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday. With that win, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Shea Studdiford was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Charlotte Garr also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
West Potomac always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Alexandria City not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Centreville.
Hannah Steedman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Steedman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Alexandria City got a massive performance out of Leah Matthews, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Avery Lentz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
West Potomac's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Alexandria City, their record is now 2-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Potomac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Alexandria City struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Potomac couldn't quite finish off Alexandria City when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can West Potomac avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
