Football Recap: St. Clair County Fighting Saints vs. Jemison Panthers
St. Clair County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They breezed past the Jemison Panthers to the tune of 61-21 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Fighting Saints' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Panthers are ranked 294th).

St. Clair County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landyn Smith, who threw for 276 yards and three TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Those 65 rushing yards gave Smith a new career-high. Randy Pettway was another key rusher, rushing for 167 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Clair County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 327 rushing yards. They rushed for 114 more rushing yards than Jemison's also-impressive total of 213.
Despite the loss, Jemison still got an impressive performance from Adrian Davis, who rushed for 149 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one touchdown. St. Clair County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 42-28 victory against Montgomery Catholic on the 29th.
