Softball Recap: Hollins Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

After only two runs in their last contest, Hollins made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pinellas Park on Thursday. Everything went the Hollins Royals' way against the Pinellas Park Patriots as the Hollins Royals made off with a 13-2 win. The Royals have beaten the Patriots the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Patriots has come to flipping the script.

Hollins let Ava Vargas and Aubree Van Epps run wild. Vargas scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Van Epps went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave Van Epps a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Gianna Close, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Hollins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hollins pushed their record up to 3-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Pinellas Park, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hollins will challenge Dunedin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pinellas Park, they will take on Countryside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pinellas Park has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
