Basketball Recap: Chico Comes Up Short

Chico lost against Foothill back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Chico Panthers fell to the Foothill Cougars 77-71. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (67), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Chico lost, don't look at Magnus Nielsen. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 15 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Nielsen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Remi Lefebvre also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Foothill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matt Poulsen out in front who went 9 of 19 en route to 23 points. Another player making a difference was Zane Miceli, who went 6 for 14 to rack up 15 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Chico's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Foothill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Chico didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-34 victory against Red Bluff on the 4th. As for Foothill, they have also already played their next match, a 61-29 win against Shasta on the 4th.
