Basketball Recap: Zeke Settles Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Canterbury

Venice's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Canterbury Cougars as the Venice Indians made off with a 71-47 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 67-41 back in November of 2024.

Venice's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zeke Settles led the charge by going 7 of 10 on his way to 17 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Marcel Fil, who went 6 of 9 en route to 13 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Settles wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Venice was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Canterbury lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Collin Meagher, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Grossenbaugh, who put up nine points.

The win got Venice back to even at 6-6. As for Canterbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Venice didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-69 victory against Bradenton Christian on the 3rd. As for Canterbury, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-67 loss against Bayshore on the 3rd.
