Basketball Recap: South Sumter Comes Up Short

South Sumter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They fell 43-35 to the Mount Dora Hurricanes. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-30 back in November of 2024.

Leading Mount Dora to victory were Taejah Bosch and Isabella Abner. Bosch posted 14 points, while Abner earned ten points. Another player making a difference was Teegan Scott, who had five points.

South Sumter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Mount Dora, with the win, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-8.

South Sumter and Mount Dora could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. South Sumter (ranked 553rd) will meet Weeki Wachee (ranked 231st) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Mount Dora will face off against Umatilla at 6:00 p.m. on Monday down 331 places (561 vs. 230).
