Volleyball Recap: Amherst Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Amherst entered their tilt with Niobrara/Verdigre on Saturday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 3-0 win.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Amherst took every set by at least 12 points. The final score came out to 25-9, 25-13, 25-6.

Leading Amherst to victory were Kenna Hagan and Breckyn Layne Veskerna. Hagan had seven assists and four aces, while Layne Veskerna had ten digs and one assist. That's the most aces Hagan has posted since back in September.

Lynae Nielsen and Amber Sucha certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Nielsen had 11 digs, while Sucha had. Nielsen is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Amherst's victory bumped their record up to 25-5. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-16.

Coming up, Amherst will square off against Cross County at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Niobrara/Verdigre does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
