Basketball Recap: Richard Groff and Brandon Castilla Secure Win for Davenport

Davenport waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against Canyon Lake as they made off with a 71-51 win. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Davenport to victory were Brandon Castilla and Richard Groff. Castilla went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points, while Groff went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. The matchup was Castilla's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Jones, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points.

Davenport was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Davenport has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which somehow still isn't as good as their 22-4 record this season. As for Canyon Lake, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-14.

Davenport and Bandera will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Davenport has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Canyon Lake, they will square off against Fredericksburg at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
