Softball Recap: Allendale Comes Up Short

Spring Lake hit Allendale with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons fell just short of the Lakers by a score of 7-6. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lakers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Addy Northup spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Tessa Gunter was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bailey Scholma, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Allendale's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Spring Lake, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5.

While Allendale had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
