Baseball Game Preview: Tarkington Longhorns vs. Silsbee Tigers

Tarkington hasn't had much luck against Silsbee recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tarkington Longhorns will challenge the Silsbee Tigers at 4:00 p.m.

On Monday, Tarkington came up short against Bridge City and fell 6-3.

Meanwhile, Silsbee got the win against Hamshire-Fannett on Monday by a conclusive 10-2. Considering the Tigers have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Matsyn Morris made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryder Blythe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Landen Lee was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Silsbee and bumps their season record up to 10-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tarkington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9-1.

Tarkington came up short against Silsbee in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 7-3. Can Tarkington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
