Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai entered their tilt with Islip on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Buccaneers by a score of 6-3. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 3-1 victory on Thursday.

Shawn Flannery was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mount Sinai's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Flannery was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Benny Franquiz, who fired off two home runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Mount Sinai is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ralph Passantino, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Mount Sinai's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Islip, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Looking ahead, Mount Sinai will challenge Shoreham-Wading River at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Islip has already played their next matchup (against Bay Shore), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
