Softball Preview: Hammond Central Wolves vs. River Forest Ingots        
        
		
            The Hammond Central Wolves are taking a road trip to  face off against the River Forest Ingots  at 4:45  p.m.  on Friday. Hammond Central has given up an average of 15.9  runs per game this season, but Friday's  game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hammond Central is headed into Friday's   matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game  on Tuesday. They came up short against  Washington Township, falling  17-4.
  Neveena Funches was cooking despite her team's loss,   getting on base  in all three of her plate appearances with five  stolen bases and three  runs.  Alainnah Pabey was another key player,  getting on base  in all three of her plate appearances with one  RBI.
Meanwhile, River Forest lost  26-16 to Merrillville on Thursday.
  D'Yanna Hurn and  Amy Arana stepped up to the plate in a big way.  Hurn  went a perfect 3-for-3 with one  home run, three  runs,  and three  RBI, while  Arana  got on base  in four of her five plate appearances with four  runs, two  stolen bases,  and one  RBI.  Vanessa Bush also deserves some recognition as  she  brought in her first  RBI of the season.
 Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for River Forest, they have  been struggling recently as they've  lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record  this season.
Friday's   game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hammond Central has hit smart this season,  having  averaged  an OBP of .555. However, it's not like River Forest struggles in that department as   they've  averaged .540. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Hammond Central suffered a grim  15-6 defeat to River Forest  in their previous meeting  back in May of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
