Basketball Recap: Greenville Comes Up Short

Greenville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 43-41 back in December of 2024.

Greenville's loss came despite strong showings from Jarvis Simmons and Marquel Deering. Simmons almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards, while Deering posted 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Simmons is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Nicholas Hurley was another key player, putting up two points and four steals.

Greenville's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-20.

While Greenville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
