The Sherrard Tigers will head out to take on the East Moline United Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Sherrard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Sherrard's last matchup with Riverdale could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Saturday. The Tigers came up short against the Rams, falling 15-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Tigers, who until this contest were averaging 3.96 runs allowed.
Sherrard saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savanah Hauger, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Hauger's first of the season.
Meanwhile, East Moline United got the win against Quincy on Thursday by a conclusive 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Samantha Verstraete was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miah Berhenke, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Mea Johnson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
East Moline United kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
East Moline United's record now sits at 13-9. As for Sherrard, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Sherrard hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like East Moline United struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Sherrard was able to grind out a solid victory over East Moline United in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
