Softball Recap: Bell Gardens Find Success

Bell Gardens's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 17-12 win over the Alhambra Moors. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lancers needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Gabriella Alvarado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits. Alvarado was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Bell Gardens let Jailene Roman and Nayeli Gomez run wild. Roman got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Gomez went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Roman has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Galvan, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Bell Gardens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Bell Gardens' victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Alhambra, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Bell Gardens will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mark Keppel at 3:30 p.m. on April 8. Bell Gardens' pitchers better be ready for this one: Mark Keppel has averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Alhambra, they will challenge Sacred Heart of Jesus at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
