Baseball Game Preview: South Dade Buccaneers vs. Sunset Knights

The South Dade Buccaneers will challenge the Sunset Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The last six games South Dade has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Wednesday, South Dade needed a bit of extra time to put away Coral Gables. They had just enough and edged out the Cavaliers 7-6. That's two games straight that the Buccaneers have won by just one run.

Romeo Del Rio looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, South Dade let Giovanni Vera and Luis Alejandro Mora run wild. Vera got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI, while Mora went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That double was Vera's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Sunset suffered their closest loss since May 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Hialeah Gardens by a score of 4-2. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

South Dade's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for Sunset, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
