Basketball Preview: Voyager Vikings vs. Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions

The Voyager Vikings will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions at 7:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Voyager has ten straight wins, the Flying Lions have 16 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Voyager put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. Everything went their way against Roxboro Community as Voyager made off with a 88-67 win. Given Voyager's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 656th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Dwight Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nasir Westbrook, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Meanwhile, Excelsior Classical Academy pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 62-55 to Eno River.

Voyager is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, their defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Everything came up roses for Voyager against the Flying Lions in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 68-34 victory. With Voyager ahead 38-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
