Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Has No Trouble Against Lamar

Mt. Vernon never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past the Lamar Tigers 7-0. The victory continues a trend for the Mountaineers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Emily Schubert was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rae Downing, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Lilly Burk was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Lamar, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Mt. Vernon has already played their next match, a 10-1 victory against West County on the 11th. As for Lamar, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-7 win against Butler on the 11th.
