Football Recap: Cristian Vela and Joel Mungia Pace Robstown Defense + How To Watch

Robstown and King pushed the score to 48-30 the last time they played King, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Cottonpickers walked away with a 20-7 victory over the Mustangs. For the Cottonpickers, this counts as revenge for the 48-30 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Robstown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cristian Vela and Joel Mungia. With that strong performance, Mungia is now averaging an impressive 5.5 total tackles per game.

When it comes to explaining why King lost, don't look at Jordan Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 127 yards and one TD on only 14 carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Davis' longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Robstown's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for King, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Robstown will square off against Carrizo Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for King, they will venture away from home to face off against Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Mustangs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
