Baseball Recap: Blount Wins Going Away Against Rain

Blount had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Rain Red Raiders on Friday as the Blount Leopards made off with a 12-2 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Leopards' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Bailey James made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christopher Wiggins Jr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Mitchell, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Blount was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Blount's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Rain, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Blount will face off against Murphy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rain, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against UMS-Wright Prep at 5:00 p.m. UMS-Wright Prep will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Rain surely won't give up without a fight.
