Basketball Game Preview: Orangefield Bobcats vs. Buna Cougars

Orangefield and Buna are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Orangefield Bobcats duke it out with the Buna Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Friday, Orangefield opened the new year with a less-than-successful 70-59 loss to East Chambers. While the Bobcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Buccaneers 22-17 in the first quarter.

Buna got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They claimed a resounding 69-24 win over Hardin. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted since December 5, 2024.

Orangefield's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-7. As for Buna, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-16.

Everything came up roses for Orangefield against Buna in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 55-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orangefield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
