Baseball Recap: Maria Carrillo Takes a Loss

Maria Carrillo extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-9. They came up short against the Rancho Cotate Cougars, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 back in March.

Maria Carrillo got a good showing from Zakiah Jamieson, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Jamieson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

As for Rancho Cotate, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Rancho Cotate's side, Adien O'Sullivan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. O'Sullivan is becoming a predictor of Rancho Cotate's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). O'Sullivan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Caden Bolin Percy was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Dylan McReynolds Jr. was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rancho Cotate beat Maria Carrillo by a score of 3-2 on Friday.
