Baseball Recap: Cordia Victorious

While Cordia's victory against Red Bird wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions skirted past the Cardinals 17-15. 17 seems to be a good number for the Lions as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jeremy Holland made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Riley Melton was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Cory Dobson was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

The victory made it two in a row for Cordia and bumps their season record up to 4-19. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Red Bird, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Cordia and Red Bird will both be playing Jenkins the next time they take the field. The Lions will head out to face the Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Cardinals will host them on Thursday.
