Basketball Recap: Grants Wins Going Away Against Zuni

On Wednesday, everything went the Grants Pirates's way against the Zuni Thunderbirds as the Grants Pirates made off with an 80-55 victory. The Pirates pushed the score to 62-42 by the end of the third, a deficit the Thunderbirds had little chance of recovering from.

Zuni lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nathan Simplicio, who posted 11 points and eight boards. Simplicio is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Deron Lastyano was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Grants has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Zuni, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grants will square off against Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Grants' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games. As for Zuni, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wingate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wingate will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Zuni surely won't give up without a fight.
