Football Game Preview: South Pointe Stallions vs. Beaufort Eagles

The South Pointe Stallions will square off against the Beaufort Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Pointe has nine straight victories, Beaufort has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

South Pointe is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Richland Northeast a 70-0 shutout on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Stallions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked second, while the Cavaliers are ranked 152nd).

South Pointe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rasean Brown, who rushed for 94 yards and one score on only eight carries. Those 94 rushing yards gave Brown a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of R.J. Brown, who rushed for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Pointe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 293 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Malik Ratliff, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Beaufort played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Hilton Head Island 53-20. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.

South Pointe's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Beaufort, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything came up roses for South Pointe against Beaufort in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, as the squad secured a 41-7 victory. In that matchup, the Stallions amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
