Basketball Recap: New Prairie Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when New Prairie duked it out withWheeler on Tuesday. The New Prairie Cougars lost to the Wheeler Bearcats on the road by a 50-36 margin. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, New Prairie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chloe Deutscher posted six points and nine boards. Morgan Flagg was another key player, putting up 12 points and six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheeler to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kylie Simpson, who put up 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Simpson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Renn, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points and four steals.

New Prairie's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Wheeler, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

New Prairie didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-41 loss against South Bend Adams on the 6th. As for Wheeler, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-40 defeat against River Forest on the 6th.
