Preview: Springville Red Devils vs. Bountiful RedHawks
Springville is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Bountiful is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Springville Red Devils will take on the Bountiful RedHawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Springville owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They blew past East 24-0.
Springville can attribute much of their success to Lisiate Valeti, who rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Tevita Valeti, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Valeti is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last 11 games he's played.
Springville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Dallin Johnson and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Bountiful was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Granger 42-0 on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Bountiful just coasted through the last quarter.
Bountiful found their leader in underclassman Siaki Fekitoa, who rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Fekitoa was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Geilman, who rushed for seven yards and a touchdown.
Springville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Bountiful, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Springville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 217.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bountiful struggles in that department as they've been averaging 147.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Springville won a contest that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in August of 2022, slipping by Bountiful 18-17. Does Springville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bountiful turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
